ALGIERS (Reuter) - Algeria's collective presidency, which is backed by the army, has announced the progressive closure of detention camps in the Sahara desert holding up to 3,000 supporters of the banned Islamic Salvation Front.
Those in the camps will be tried in court where applicable or freed. There will also be a new crackdown on mosques deemed to be subversive.
