ALGIERS (Reuter) - Islamic militants killed a Spanish national in Algeria, a day after expiry of a deadline set by fundamentalist kidnappers for all foreigners to leave the country.
Manuel Lopez Bailen was killed while he was driving in an isolated mountain region between the villages of Khemis Miliana and Berroughia about 50 miles south- west of the capital Algiers. He had been accompanied by four Algerians who were seriously beaten by the attackers before being released. Officials blamed a 'terrorist group'.
