Larbi Bida, 30, a deputy prosecutor in algiers, and Djillali Bourkiza, mayor of El Affroun, have been assassinated in separate attacks by gunmen who escaped, AP reports from Algiers.
No claims of responsibility were made for the attacks, but suspicion fell on Islamic extremists whose underground war with the military-backed regime has reportedly left 1,200 people dead.
