Sidon (Reuter) - Pro-Iranian Muslims and Syrian-backed allies scored a crushing victory in the last round of Lebanon's general election in the south of the country, final official results showed yesterday.

The Amal movement leader, Nabih Berri, the Sunni Muslim leader, Bahiya Hariri, and two Hizbollah (Party of God) candidates topped a list of 23 parliamentarians elected in the third round of the first general elections in 20 years.

Mr Berri took 118,827 votes, Ms Hariri 117,761 and Hizbollah's Mohammad Fneish 117,753.
