A US commentator has been accused of anti-Semitism over a series of tweets she sent during the Republican debate.

Ann Coulter accused the candidates of pandering to Jewish voters, tweeting to her 663,000 followers: “How many f---ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?”

Coulter is currently supporting Donald Trump for President of the United States.

Her tweet led to accusations of anti-Semitism. Some followers also speculated she was playing a drinking game while watching the debate:

She defended her comment by saying it wasn’t made targeting Jewish people and that it had to be read in context with previous tweets:

Estimates put the number of Jews living in the United States at 6.8 million.

Coulter has previously courted controversy for her remarks about Mexicans: "If you don’t want to be killed by Isis, don’t go to Syria. If you don’t want to be killed by a Mexican, there’s nothing I can tell you."
