Anthony Weiner's election bid faces another set back after adviser Barbara Morgan attacks former intern

Anthony Weiner’s bid to be New York mayor has faced another major setback, after his Communication Director Barbara Morgan let rip at an intern after she penned a comment piece on the campaign.

Ms Morgan unleashed an expletive-filled attack on Olivia Nuzzi, who reportedly said six staff had resigned from his campaign and many had only joined in order to gain closer ties with Hilary Clinton, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

An article credited to Ms Nuzzi has since appeared on the front of the New York Daily News and alleges staff had "short resumes" and believed the campaign would further their chances of working with Ms Clinton, as Weiner’s wife is a close aide.

During an interview with the website Talking Points Memo, Ms Morgan allegedly said: “I'm dealing with like stupid f***ing interns who make it on to the cover of the Daily News even though they signed [non-disclosure agreements] and/or they proceeded to trash me. F***ing slutbag. Nice f***ing glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News. Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again,” according to the SMH.

Sydney Leathers provided the first set back for the politician earlier in the week after the 23-year-old alleged that she had exchanged inappropriate pictures and conversations with Mr Weiner.

These conversations are believed to have occurred after Weiner had resigned from Congress in 2011, in a similar scandal where he sent sexually suggestive images on social media.

After the interview was published, Ms Morgan apologised for the comments made, saying that she thought they were off the record. In a statement she said: “I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off-the-record conversation. It was wrong and I am very sorry, which is what I said tonight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologise.”
