Yes, it may look like a man in a bear costume or even the worst attempt at a Yeti hoax ever.
Yet a video from New Jersey shows the bizarre sight of a bear walking like a human through a quiet suburban area.
Filmed by a local in the early hours of the morning on Monday, the bear can be seen hobbling along a road, stopping for a brief sniff in a bin before walking into a wooded area. The bear remains upright for the majority of the video.
Some commentators on the internet have been quick to suggest the video is a hoax, with one YouTube comment arguing that it would be "anatomically impossible" for a bear to walk in this way.
However, residents of Oak Ridge, New Jersey claim to have seen the bear numerous times.
Ian Bohman, who filmed the incident, said he believed the bear walked on its hind legs because of an injury.
Another New Jersey resident, John Leyden, posted a neighbour’s video of the bear walking through a garden on his Facebook page. Leyden wrote, “This bear has been in videos all over town...It looks like its front right paw is either broken or deformed."
