Two Britons working in an American summer camp died when they were run over by a driver who was allegedly drunk.
Dominic Hartley and Emily Lewis, both 21, were killed in Warrensburg, New York, on Thursday night when a car veered off the road. Mr Hartley was pronounced dead at the scene and Ms Lewis was taken to Glens Falls Hospital and then to Albany Medical Centre but later died of her injuries.
Their younger colleague, Christopher Jones, 18, another Briton, was also hurt and needed hospital treatment.
They were all working at Camp Echo Lake and had been standing on the side of the road in a group of seven people when they were hit by the car, New York state police said.
The driver, Peter Goldblatt, 39, was arraigned yesterday on charges of drink-driving and aggravated vehicular homicide.
