Cannabis farm with 75,000 plants worth £4.5m discovered in Bahamas

A huge cannabis farm with 75,000 plants up to five feet tall has been raided in the Bahamas.

Police estimated that the drug had a street value of $7.5 million (£4.5 million).

The Royal Bahamas Police Force's drug unit acted with their U.S. counterparts to find the stash in East Grand Bahama on Thursday morning.

A spokesman said the fields were in an undeveloped area of the island.

"They discovered a number of marijuana plants ranging between one to five feet in height," he added.

"Officers also discovered three black garbage bags that contained freshly processed marijuana along with three makeshift tents in the area."

No arrests have been made and the police investigation continues.

Cannabis possession and production is illegal and punishable with a prison sentence or hefty fine in the Bahamas.
