Boss of food bank says dispute was ‘between neighbours’ and ‘unfortunate’

A Virginia woman was reportedly fired from her job at a food bank for racially abusing a Black neighbour.

She was videoed yelling at her Black neighbour on Thursday, who she told she was “not the right colour”, among other slurs.

A cousin of the Black woman, who named herself to the Daily Mail as Laquetta Good, afterwards uploaded a video.

It shows Ms Good telling the woman and alleged Chesterfield Food Bank worker: "I'm an n*****?"

"Yes, you are," the woman, who was videoed wearing a badge with the name ‘Hilary’ on it, responded.

On Friday, Chesterfield Food Bank CEO Kim Hill wrote on Facebook that she was “broken hearted” by the incident, which was "directly against our values and beliefs”.

“In response to this situation, we have terminated this employee,” wrote Ms Hill. “We remain committed to creating and providing a positive, uplifting, and encouraging environment for our staff, volunteers, and clients.”

She added in a statement to The Progress Index that it was “sad” and not related to the food bank’s work.

"It was between neighbours," said Ms Hill. "It is still sad and an unfortunate situation."

Ms Good told the Daily Mail that the woman in the video, ‘Hilary’, had called her “many names before”.

“But to hear her being racist, that really shocked me,” said Ms Good. “You should be able to feel comfortable in your own home. This is not acceptable. We still have a long way to go as a society for equality.”

‘Hilary’ was not officially named by Chesterfield Food Bank, The Progress Index reported, and appeared to have removed her Facebook page.

Although residents of the Colonial Heights community wrote of previous disputes between the pair, on a Facebook page for residents, The Progress Index added.
