A mother and her boyfriend are facing felony charges for allegedly allowing a nine-year-old to drive them home because they were too drunk.

Amanda Eggert and her boyfriend, James Roth, are accused of neglect and second degree recklessly endangering safety in Wisconsin.

Police were alerted about erratic driving on rural roads with reports of a truck weaving in and out of oncoming traffic for several miles, according to the Metro.

Deputy Jeff Hahn told the court there was also an 11-month-old baby strapped into a car seat in the vehicle, Fox 29 reported.

He continued, “As the nine-year-old exited the truck, it was still running and in drive when Mr Roth was sitting in the truck by himself," he said.

“He turned the ignition off and the truck began rolling backwards down the hill towards the river. I jumped into the truck to hit the brakes and put the truck in park.”

Mr Hahn also added that both adults were highly intoxicated and one of Mr Roth’s preliminary breath tests was more than three times the legal driving limit.

The case continues.
