Republican politician Donald Trump is almost as famous for his hair as he is for his outlandish views.

The businessman is known for his long blonde tufts and has fiercely disputed claims from his opponents that his hair is fake.

Hairdresser Amy Lasch, who was a hairstylist on the set of the first two seasons of The Apprentice which Trump hosted, has weighed in on the important issue to tell New York Post his hair secrets.

She told the paper that despite her role, Trump wouldn’t let her “near” his infamous coif.

She said: “It’s as if he got ready somewhere else first. If I ever noticed a flyaway that the camera was sure to pick up, I would hold a large mirror up to Donald and ask, ‘Do you want me to fix it?’ “

“I knew damn well- ask before I raised a finger to that hair.”

A Miss Universe employee who formerly worked with Trump, echoed that the politician is fiercely protective of his locks, saying: “He doesn’t like people touching his hair- he’s a germaphobe.”

Meanwhile, another insider said that Trump’s voluminous hair is the result of a hair transplant. Louis Licari, a hairdresser who coloured the hair of Trump’s first wife Ivana for more than two decades, said: “I think it’s all his hair- through transplants. I saw him several times in the office of Dr Norman Orentreich in the early ‘80s.” Dr Orentreich was the first person to complete a successful hair transplant.

Trump has always been unabashed by criticism of his hair and dismissed rumours that it may be fake. In April 2013, he tweeted: “As everybody knows, but the haters and the losers refuse to acknowledge, I do not wear a “wig”. My hair may not be perfect but it’s mine.”

The controversial politician is the frontrunner in the GOP race for the Presidential nomination, latest polls suggest.

He leads on 35 per cent support, followed by Ted Cruz on 18 per cent and Marco Rubio on 13 per cent, according to a poll commissioned by NBC.
