An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 has struck near Reno in the US state of Nevada, according to the US Geographical survey.

Although Nevada is one of the US most seismically active states and regularly experiences small tremors, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake is considered significant.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake was recorded about 11km away from Reno.

The area has experience a spate of small quakes of about 2.0 magnitude since Tuesday.
