Long-running plans for the resort of Islandia may come to an end next week after spending more than 50 years as a developer's dream.

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is expected to vote to abolish Florida's smallest city (population: five), which established itself as a municipality in 1961 amid plans to turn the 33 northern-most islands of the Florida Keys into a development of luxury hotels and villas. The plans never came to fruition and Islandia remains unspoilt.

"You can get the hell out there and restore the soul," Lloyd Miller, 91, told The New York Times. He lives near the islands and has campaigned to preserve the untouched archipelago.
