An Oklahoma man was arrested after two children who were kept inside a vehicle for almost five hours, died.

Authorities in Tulsa, Oklahoma, announced on Sunday that 31-year-old Dustin Lee Dennis had been arrested following the deaths of his two children, who were both under the age of five.

The victims, reported Fox 32, were pronounced dead outside the man’s home on Saturday.

Dennis, who faces two counts of second-degree murder, told authorities that he had driven with his children to a convenience store around noon on Saturday.

Police said that Dennis had fallen asleep for several hours whilst his children were locked inside the family truck, parked outside the home, after the shopping trip.

When he woke up, Dennis couldn’t find his children — until he searched inside the truck and found them on the floor, reported Fox32.

He then brought them inside the home, but paramedics were unable to save them, according to the report.

A neighbour reportedly told police that Dennis locked his truck and went inside without getting his children out, and was said to have videoed him doing so.

“The children had not been checked on for nearly five hours during the time they were locked inside vehicle,” the arrest report said.

Dennis was arrested and booked in Tulsa County, reported Fox32, with his bail set at $1 million (£796,600).
