Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr was filmed partying inside a busy nightclub, without a face mask, over the Memorial Day weekend.

Mr Mayweather Jr was filmed at the International Boutique Nightclub in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona, on Saturday, according to TMZ Sports.

At the busy event, people were filmed not following social distancing guidelines and not wearing face masks.

Arizona started easing its lockdown measures earlier this month, and, currently, businesses such as salons and restaurants are allowed to open, but only if they follow strict social distancing guidelines.

Scottsdale mayor Jim Lane was critical of the event at the nightclub, but did not mention the boxer by name.

“The images from Old Town Scottsdale this weekend are disturbing, and frankly show a real lack of common sense and civic responsibility,” he told the outlet.

“Businesses and their patrons need to realise that individually we each play an absolute part in our own personal hygiene, distancing and health courtesies, and each of us also plays a significant part in our city’s health, both physically and economically.

“This disease is spread between people — and personal actions determine whether public health guidance is effective in blunting the spread of Covid-19,” the mayor added.

Mr Lane said he would be talking to the owners of the business personally, adding: “If we choose to respect one another as part of a community effort, we will bring the city and the country back.”

The nightclub was not the only place in the US where Americans were filmed partying without face masks during the weekend.

In Missouri, footage emerged of large parties at The Lakes of the Ozarks, where party goers were clearly not following social distancing measures, while a majority were pictured not wearing face masks.

According to a tracking project hosted by Johns Hopkins University, there are now more than 1.6 million people who have tested positive for coronavirus in the US. The death toll has reached at least 99,264.
