Harvey Weinstein arrives in court for hearing

Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is reportedly trying to hire female lawyers by luring them in with the same lines he used on young female actors.

The film producer, whose sexual assault trial in New York is scheduled for 3 June, is said to be seeking out female lawyers in a bid to “soften his image”.

Weinstein is charged with raping an unidentified female acquaintance in 2013 and performing a forcible sex act on a different woman in 2006.

“Harvey does not want to pay premium fees,” a source told the New York Post. “His arguments to women lawyers are like the ones he used on young actresses who felt underpaid: It will be good for your career to be on my team for the notoriety and fame.”

Claims against Weinstein, who produced Oscar-winning films Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, and The Artist, stretch back almost 30 years and include sexual harassment, unwanted physical contact, and rape.

Dozens of Hollywood stars and other women have spoken out against the former producer.

Weinstein denies all allegations of non-consensual sex.

“People around Harvey are saying he’s desperately trying to hire a ‘skirt’ - their term - for the team as he feels it will soften his image,” a different unnamed insider source said.

Pamela Mackey, a Denver-based lawyer who successfully defended Kobe Bryant against a rape accusation, has dropped out of Weinstein’s “dream team” after a disagreement over her fee, according to the Post.

The publication reported that Isabelle Kirshner and Susan Necheles were among the other top female lawyers who have turned Weinstein down.

A Weinstein spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment but told The Daily Beast three female lawyers are already representing the disgraced film producer.

Last month, it emerged Weinstein and criminal defence lawyer Benjamin Brafman have parted ways.

A representative for the pair said they had separated “amicably” and the lawyer would “co-operate fully” with Weinstein’s new counsel.

Weinstein’s accusers include Mexican-American actress Salma Hayek, who alleges he sexually harassed her, and British model Cara Delevingne, who said he tried to kiss her.
