Video shows plane flying through Hurricane Laura

Crew remain composed despite major turbulence

As Hurricane Laura moves inland after devastating western Louisiana, video has been released of hurricane hunters flying through the storm.

Footage released by the Aircraft Operations Centre of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows the interior of one of their research planes as it passed through the wall of the eye of the storm over the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday.

The aircraft is buffeted around by turbulence that would cause discomfort to most people, but the crew remain composed.

The category four storm made landfall in the early hours of Thursday morning causing heavy damage with wind speeds over 150mph.

It has since weakened, but continues to drop large amounts of rain as it heads north.

More than 450,000 are without power, and the city of Lake Charles appears to have been worst hit, with collapsed buildings, downed power lines, and shattered windows.

There are reports of a fire at a chemical plant in the nearby city of Westlake, Louisiana.
