A man has been jailed for life for beating to death a gay man whose body was carved with swastikas.
The killing of Daniel Zamudio last year prompted Chile’s Congress to pass an anti-discrimination law.
A three-judge panel imposed the life sentence on Patricio Ahumada Garay, and also sentenced two others to 15 years, and another to seven years.
Zamudio’s family and friends clapped as the sentences were read out. The attackers burned Zamudio with cigarettes, beat him with glass bottles and broke his right leg with a heavy stone before they abandoned him to die in a park.
