At least 12 people were shot in Minneapolis, police said early on Sunday.
Minneapolis Police confirmed in a tweet that one person has died, and 11 others are alive with “no life-threatening wounds”.
In a previous tweet just before 3am, Minneapolis Police said there were 10 victims, who were all alive at local hospitals with “various severity levels of injuries”.
The public were advised to avoid the area in Uptown Minneapolis, in a commercial district near Landmark’s Uptown Theatre and a number of bars and restaurants.
Photographs from the aftermath of the scene posted on social media showed windows at the theatre and another shop shot out.
The area is about three miles west of the Minneapolis area hit by rioting in the wake of George Floyd’s death on 25 May, which sparked angry protests across the country.
It is unclear if anyone has been taken into custody and further details weren’t immediately available.
