A woman in New York has admitted setting fire to her young daughter during a voodoo ritual, scarring her body, prosecutors said.
Marie Lauradin pleaded guilty on Wednesday to assault by pouring flammable liquid over her then-six-year-old daughter and igniting it at their home in 2009.
Prosecutors say Lauradin poured the fluid on her daughter's head and in a circle on the floor as part of a voodoo practice involving a loa, or spirit.
The judge indicated that he would sentence her to 17 years in prison.
