Add NFL coach Rex Ryan to the long list of people who got a tattoo they would later regret.

The current head coach of the Buffalo Bills was fired from the New York Jets in December after six seasons with the team. While his job status clearly was not in stone, he did have a rather permanent memento of the team: a tattoo of his wife wearing a Jets jersey, posing like a pinup model.

Or at least she was wearing a Jets jersey. While in Arizona for the Super Bowl, Mr Ryan went to a tattoo parlour and had the artist change the colour of the jersey from the green of the Jets to the blue of the Bills, the team that hired Mr Ryan about two weeks after he was fired by the Jets.

Besides covering up the Jets tattoo, the Wall Street Journal reported that Mr Ryan has given away all the other Jets apparel he collected during his six years as the team’s coach.

Mr Ryan takes over the Buffalo Bills in the upcoming NFL season with high expectations. The team finished last season with a record of nine wins and seven losses and the organization will expect its new coach to improve on that or face the possibility of having to get another tattoo.

Chances are Mr Ryan someday will have to get the Bills tattoo covered, as coaches aren’t very long for the NFL. The longest-tenured coach in the league is the Super Bowl-winning coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, who has been in his post since 2000.
