Police officer jumps into Sugar Land lake to rescue a woman from her sinking car

Bodycam footage shows the moment three police officers entered a lake in Texas to rescue a woman from her sinking car.

Witnesses called 911 after seeing the vehicle mount the curb in the city of Sugar Land before crashing into the water.

The officers leapt into the lake and swam to the car, smashing the windows to rescue the driver.

In the footage, released by the Sugar Land Police Department, one officer can be seen in the water, which is known to be home to both alligators and snakes, as a second officer rushes towards the vehicle.

The car sank to the bottom of the lake not long after the woman was pulled to safety.

One officer was treated for minor cuts.

Police said in a Facebook post: "The quick actions of several police officers Saturday morning were captured on body cameras as they saved the life of a woman whose car was sinking fast in a local lake.

"Patrol units arrived within minutes, and three police officers immediately jumped into the lake known to include alligators and snakes, smashed a window and pulled the woman to safety.

"The vehicle sank below the surface shortly after the woman was removed.

"She later told an officer she fell asleep before losing control of her vehicle.

"The driver was uninjured and very lucky; however, one of our officers was treated for minor cuts."
