Police officer fatally shoots 'friendly' dog in apartment hallway

The owner was tackled and pinned down after confronting the officer

A New York City police officer shot and killed a “friendly” 4-year-old pitbull in the Bronx.

Yvonne Rosado, 42, said that her dog Spike was fatally shot back on February 13, despite pleading to the officer that the dog was friendly.

“The officer just reacted badly,” she told the New York Daily News on Thursday. “I was screaming, ‘He’s friendly! He’s friendly!’ But he still did that to my dog.”

The dog began barking when officers from the 46th Precinct responded to a domestic disturbance call at 5:30am. When Rosado opened the door to see what was happening, Spike managed to slip into the hallway.

Surveillance footage shows the dog approaching the officer with his tail wagging before the officer shoots the dog at point-blank range.

"He was still wagging his tail as he was dying,” Rosado told CBS 2. “It's the worst thing."

Rosado’s neighbor Irma Sue Santiago, 46, said that her daughter was nearly three feet away from the shooting.

“What if he had missed the dog and shot my daughter? She’s traumatized by the whole thing,” she told the Daily News.

Rosado admit she was hysterical and followed the officers to confront them.

“They jumped on top of me — three men,” she told CBS 2. “I'm in my undergarments in the hallway.”

Santiago added that Rosado's entire back was left "black and blue" after the incident.

Rosado she plans to file a lawsuit against the city and planning to file a grievance against the officers with the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board.
