A fast food customer was apparently so disappointed a restaurant had run out of chicken sandwiches he pulled a gun and demanded staff make him one anyway.

The meat-lover whipped out the weapon in a branch of Popeyes in the US city of Houston.

He was among a group of men and women who threatened staff upon learning of the shortage.

"When the manager told them they were out, one of the males became upset and pulled a pistol and demanded a chicken sandwich," Lieutenant Larry Crowson, of Houston Police Department, said in a statement.

At an apparent loss what to do, the manager “again informed them they were out of sandwiches,” added Lt Crowson.

At that point, the group left and drove off in a 4x4 vehicle.
