She’s a Homewrecker.com: The website that encourages wives to ‘expose’ their cheating husbands’ mistresses

Site has been criticised for encouraging ‘weird vigilantism’, yet has nearly 250,000 Facebook subscribers

A website based in the US has taken it upon itself to wage war against the adulterous affairs of married men – by “naming and shaming” the women they sleep with.

Fuelled by the fury of women whose partners have cheated, ShesAHomewrecker.com actively encourages its users to post personal details about their men’s “mistresses” – their full names, locations, photographs and in some cases even addresses and phone numbers.

Described by one commentators on Twitter as “weird vigilantes”, posters are encouraged by an apparent credo posted in the website’s About section that says: “They say if you can’t beat them join them, but we say if you can’t beat them, EXPOSE them!”

The site has been criticised for targeting other women instead of the straying husbands and boyfriends themselves, with Kate Dries writing for Jezebel saying: “On She's a Homewrecker, men don't entirely escape the wrath of the women posting, but they certainly are less of the focus.”

While often-aggressive “bashing” websites of this nature are not exactly uncommon, She’s a Homewrecker is remarkable for the sheer weight of following it has received on Facebook.

It has received nearly 250,000 likes, users who are rewarded with e-cards posted by the site admin containing aphorisms such as “You’ll always succeed at being uglier, skankier and bitchier than I am. Way to one up me there!”

On Twitter, Jessica Diehr (@JessDiehr) criticised the site for being about: “Women vs women.”

Amy Grimm (@Grimmone35) asked: “Where is the rage towards the men?”

Karla Carter (@professorkarla), whose profile says she teaches classes in IT ethics, wrote that: “The folks who cheat are worse than the accomplices,” while another user simply said: “Shaming is not cool.”

While users of She’s a Homewrecker post vicious personal attacks and with potential security and harassment concerns over the uploading of detailed contact information for those being “shamed”, the website says it takes no responsibility for the content it shows.

An extensive disclaimer reads: “The content of all posts and comments… represents the opinions of the original poster and are not endorsed, approved or representations of the opinions of Shesahomewrecker.com or its owners.

“Shesahomewrecker.com is all about gossip and satire. The content of the posts and comments published contain rumors, speculation, assumptions, factual information and opinions.”
