Police say six people have been killed and three injured in a shooting at a North Carolina nursing home.
Carthage Police Chief Chris McKenzie tells television stations WRAL and WTVD in North Carolina that the shootings happened around 10 a.m. at Pinelake Health and Rehab in the town of Carthage.
Authorities say the gunman, who's in custody, was among those injured, as was a police officer. It wasn't immediately clear what the gunman's motive might have been.
A nursing home Web site said the facility about 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of Raleigh has 90 beds and specializes in caring for those with Alzheimer's disease.
Calls to the police and the nursing home by the Associated Press rang unanswered Sunday.
