Strip club criticised for job ad aimed at stay-at-home mums

But as it doesn't have a liquor licence, the club may be able to keep the sign up because it falls under free speech

An advert posted by a strip club is causing controversy, for asking “stay-at-home mothers” to apply to earn extra money.

The sign, posted outside of Kandi’s Gentlemen’s Club in Omaha, Nebraska, reads: “Fully nude girls! Stay-at-home mums earn extra cash! Apply within.”

According to residents, the sign, which faces a main street, is “very inappropriate”.

One local woman, Jetta Eveland, told KMTV that her eight-year-old son has asked about the sign.

She said: “My sign has seen the sign and he has asked: ‘Mum, why would mums go be naked? Why do they want naked mums?’

“And the fact that it has ‘fully nude girls, stay-at-home mums,’ my son can read that, he knows what nude means and it’s just terrible.”

Another resident, Rush Syese, said it is inappropriate because there is a preschool nearby.

“I don’t think they should have to see that,” he said.

However, because the club does not have an alcohol license, it means it is difficult for the city to regulate it.

According to local councilman Pete Festersen, who spoke to the news outlet and who thinks the sign is “distasteful”, Kandi’s does not have to take down the sign because it is considered free speech.

The councilman also said that the club had been forced to remove a previous sign under temporary sign restrictions.

The club, which currently has a “temporarily closed” sign on the front door, had its request for a liquor license denied but is in the process of appealing the decision.
