‘Yes, I f***ing have Covid:’ University in Texas investigating video of young woman bragging about having coronavirus at house party
College seeing ‘notable increase in positive Covid-19 cases’, president says
Officials at Texas Tech University (TTU) are investigating a video circulating on social media of a young woman seemingly bragging about having coronavirus at a party.
The university’s Dean of students released a statement on Twitter saying that the video, which surfaced last week, is being investigated by the Office of the Dean of Students and Student Conduct.
"We have received a report and are aware of a video related to Covid. The matter is being addressed by the Office of the Dean of Students and Student Conduct,” the TTU Dean of Students posted.
The statement comes following a viral video in which a young woman seemingly admits she has coronavirus while apparently at a large gathering, telling people to stop complaining at her.
"Yes, I f***ing have Covid" the woman says. "The whole f***ing world has Covid."
"All of these people have Covid," she says, panning the camera to what appears to be a party unfolding behind her. “So stop getting on my tip ... like I’m having a good time.”
A recording of the video shared on Twitter with the caption: “what’s happening at Texas Tech”, has been viewed more than 900,000 times and has amassed over 30,000 likes.
The woman has not yet been identified and it is not known whether she has the virus or if she or anyone who appears in the video is a student at the university.
Texas Tech University did not immediately respond to a request for comment when contacted by The Indepdendent.
A spokesperson told NBC News in a statement: "the Dean of Students acknowledged the video on social media, once it was brought to our attention. Beyond that, we do not expand on student inquiries, per privacy laws."
On Wednesday, the university's president released a letter to students and staff warning that the institution has seen “a notable increase in positive Covid-19 cases in our campus community”, predominantly in students who live off campus.
The university’s coronavirus dashboard showed that as of Wednesday, the school had 612 active cases, among which 571 are students.
