The photographer who took the picture of a drenched father holding his umbrella to shield his son from the pouring rain has said he took the image because dads 'don't get the credit they deserve'.

The picture has been viewed more than four million times and has over 5,000 upvotes on Reddit.

The man who took the photo, Eumine Choi, saw the father and son walking in the rain and took a photo to show his friends.

The moment made Choi think of his own father: “It was sweet. It reminded me of my dad and all the times he did these kinds of things but I didn’t even realize,” he told Yahoo Parenting.

Choi says the father was carrying a leather briefcase and some food, and decided to hold the umbrella over his son instead of worrying about himself.

"I don't think he realized what his dad was going through at the time," Choi said.

“I think everyone can relate somewhat and can recognize how much of a selfless act this is. It struck a sweet spot.

“Dads, they don’t get as much credit as they deserve.”
