Tim Kaine: Son of Hillary Clinton's running mate arrested at pro-Donald Trump rally in Minnesota

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine’s son has been arrested in Minnesota for second-degree rioting after an altercation broke out during a pro-Donald Trump rally.

Linwood Kaine, 24, was arrested along with five others and has since been released from the Ramsey County jail. Further investigation is pending.

Senator Kaine was Hillary Clinton’s running mate in the 2016 presidential election.

The rally was attended by approximately 400 people and took place in the State Capitol building, according to Minnesota State Patrol.

Thirty minutes into the event, it was interrupted by 50 anti-Trump protesters at the State Capitol building who blew horns and chanted. A smoke bomb also went off at that point, according to the Pioneer Press.

Mr Kaine was seen with a group of four other people who set off fireworks in the building and then fled the scene.

He was taken with “some force” a block away, St Paul police spokesperson Steve Linders said.

No charges have been filed against Mr Kaine as yet, but city attorney Samuel Clark is reviewing the case to decide whether to file misdemeanor charges against him.

A spokesman for Senator Kaine sent a statement to the Washington Post which said, "We love that our three children have their own views and concerns about current political issues. They fully understand the responsibility to express those concerns peacefully."

Mr Kaine attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and Senator Kaine is originally from St Paul.

The Senator and his wife, Ann Houlton, have two other children: Anelia, 24, and Nat, 26, a Marine.
