Donald Trump’s niece says that her uncle will not run again in 2024, despite what he has reportedly been telling his allies.

In an interview with CNN on Thursday night, psychologist Mary Trump said that the talk of running again is just to massage his ego.

She told anchor Chris Cuomo: “He will never put himself in a position where he can lose like this again.”

Similarly, in The Washington Post, commentator Paul Waldman also wrote that Mr Trump will continue to say he is running again but won’t actually do it.

“He can keep telling everyone that he really won the 2020 election and it was stolen from him by fraud (and he will, ad nauseam), but the prospect of yet another loss would be too frightening.”

Ms Trump noted that the talk of running again was likely floated to appease him — but conversely, it also acknowledges the loss now at a time when he still has not conceded.

The prospect of running again would also mean that for four years he would have to play a supporting role which would be very difficult for him, she argues.

Ms Trump also pointed out that over that time his age and health issues may be a greater factor than they are now.

Legal matters may catch up with him too, she noted: “He may be looking at serious charges against him.”

Asked if Mr Trump would get his supporters to fight for him, or if that were a bridge too far, his niece pointed out that that there is no bridge too far for him.

“He will do whatever he needs to do so long as the Republicans continue to allow it.”

Referencing his “willful inaction” over the surge in Covid-19 cases and deaths, she said that he doesn’t care about the American people unless they are of service to him.

As new cases of coronavirus top 160,000 per day, progressive New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has reached a similar conclusion.

“We are in a very dangerous moment where President Trump has no interest in helping the American people,” she told a town hall with constituents. “His urgency prior to the election, I would say, was entirely predicated on his reelection. And now the election is over it seems he has no urgency to help everyone in this country.”
