Donald Trump does not intend to go to Joe Biden’s inauguration as president in January, according to a report.

And the outgoing president will not even invite Mr Biden and Dr Jill Biden to the White House ahead of the 20 January event, according to NBCNews.

Mr Trump was invited to the White House by then president Barack Obama after his surprise defeat of Hillary Clinton in 2016.

And Mr Trump could even announce his intention to run for the White House again in 2024 on inauguration day, according to Ken Dilanian of NBC News.

“Trump may announce for 2024 on inauguration day.  Either way, he won't attend the inauguration and does not plan to invite Biden to the White House or even call him,” tweeted Mr Dilanian.

Mr Trump has still refused to concede his election defeat despite Mr Biden’s wins having now been certified in all the battleground states.

He has falsely claimed widespread voter fraud without providing any evidence and has suffered a string of legal defeats in courtroom across the country.

The government’s election cybersecurity team has called it the “most secure election in American history” and attorney general Bill Barr has said there is no evidence of fraud that would change the result.

Mr Biden’s transition team says that Mr Trump’s non-attendance will make no difference to their inauguration plans, reports NBC News.

It would not be the first time a president has skipped the event if Mr Trump does not attend the swearing in of Mr Biden as his successor.

John Adams, John Quincy Adams and Andrew Johnson all did not go, and Richard Nixon did not attend Gerald Ford’s swearing in after his resignation from office.
