Donald Trump’s supporters are furious after their hotel reservations were cancelled ahead of a planned protest.

The Proud Boys, an extremist right wing movement that supports the US president, had alleged booked rooms at the Hotel Harrington in Washington DC, so that they could take part in pro-Trump protests.

The protest, which was due to take place on 6 January, was organised to coincide with a vote in Congress that will cement Joe Biden as president-elect.

But in an announcement, the Hotel Harrington said it had taken the decision to cancel all reservations between 4 and 6 January, so that it could “protect the safety of our visitors, guests and employees”.

Only long-term residents will be allowed to stay at the hotel on those dates.

According to The Daily Beast, the president’s supporters complained on social media, with one person writing that the "HOTEL HARRINGTON GOT CUCKED BY A BUNCH OF LOSER LIBERALS”.

Another wrote that the "HOTEL HARRINGTON HAS NO BACKBONE”, while another posted on The Donald - a pro-Trump social media platform - that the hotel “WILL F**K YOU OVER!!!"

Other supporters of the president were also due to stay at the hotel, and take part in the protest, it was reported.

It is the latest pro-Trump demonstration in Washington DC since Mr Trump lost to Mr Biden, who he claims did not win - which is without basis.

On three previous weekends when protests took place, the Proud Boys and other pro-Trump supporters were said to have used the bar at the Harrington, which led to citations against the hotel because social distancing and mask wearing measures were not adhered to.

According to the Washington Post, Proud Boys members have been using the hotel as an unofficial base.

Enrique Tarrio, who heads the Proud Boys, told the Post that they had previously stayed at the hotel and that the Proud Boys would not stay at the hotel or use the bar if they were asked to do so.

The Harrington said in a statement that “Washington DC has been our home for 106 years and we join with all of our guests, visitors, staff and neighbours in our concern and desire for everyone’s health and safety”.

“While we cannot control what happens outside of the hotel, we are taking additional steps to protect the safety of our visitors, guests and employees,” added the hotel.
