Donald Trump’s legal team has distanced itself from attorney Sidney Powell after she spread wild conspiracy theories about election fraud.

The president’s legal team took to Twitter to distance themselves from Ms Powell, who has claimed Venezuelan communists helped to interfere in the US election, and to insist she was not working for the outgoing president.

The move came just days after Ms Powell appeared onstage with Rudy Giuliani during a bizarre press conference where the former New York City mayor also made baseless accusations of voter fraud.

“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity,” said Mr Giuliani and Jenna Ellis in the statement.

On Saturday Ms Powell, a former federal prosecutor, claimed an upcoming Georgia election lawsuit “will be biblical” as the president’s campaign continues to try and prove its unfounded voter fraud allegations.

“Georgia's probably going to be the first state I'm gonna blow up," she said on Newsmax TV.

"We've got tons of evidence. It's so much, it's hard to pull it all together. Hopefully, this week we will get it ready to file, and it will be biblical.”

During the press conference last week Ms Powell claimed that Mr Trump had won the election by a “landslide” but had been cheated by an “algorithm” designed by Dominion Voting Systems in their ballot machines.

Ms Powell claimed that the fraud was controlled figures including George Soros, the Clinton Foundation, communists from Venezuela, Cuba and China and corrupt election officials.

She claimed the Dominion Voting Systems machines were created in Venezuela at the direction of the late Hugo Chavez so he never lost an election.

Dominion has denied the allegation and the Trump campaign has not produced any evidence to back it up.

Ms Powell’s claims were even too much for Fox News host Tucker Carlson who said she had no evidence to back them up and became embroiled in a public spat with her.
