US election live stream: How to watch in UK

All of Britain’s leading broadcasters are offering overnight coverage

As American voters go to the polls on Tuesday, the world holds its collective breath: will Donald Trump be elected to serve another four-year term or will Joe Biden win the White House?

Whoever wins, the final outcome may not be known for a few days, as an unprecedented number of mail-in ballots have been cast in this year’s election.

That said, if the race is not as tight as anticipated, the winner could be announced by tomorrow morning UK time - just like in 2016, when the election was called for Mr Trump shortly before 7.30am GMT following his victory in Wisconsin.

If you are living in the UK and do not want to miss any of the US election results coverage on TV, here are some of the choices on offer:

BBC: US Election 2020

Katty Kay and Andrew Neil will be at the helm of the BBC’s election coverage this year, which starts at 11.30pm on BBC One, the BBC News Channel and BBC iPlayer.

While Ms Kay will be reporting from Washington and Mr Neil will be speaking from London, the BBC has plenty of reporters on the ground with the Trump and Biden campaigns as well as in crucial swing states.

The broadcaster’s coverage will last until 9am, when Matthew Amroliwala and Reeta Chakrabarti take over for further news and analysis.

Sky News: America Decides 

Sky News’ live coverage begins at 9pm with an hour-long programme called Trump: America Interrupted, which analyses the last four years of US politics, and finishes at 7am on Wednesday.

Dermot Murnaghan, who will live from Washington, will be the channel’s main anchor, with support from Ed Conway in London.

This year, the broadcaster is collaborating with NBC and, as a result, claims that it will have its “most comprehensive” ever election data.

ITV: Trump vs Biden: The Results 

Tom Bradby will lead the ITV’s results programme from Washington and Julie Etchingham will be on hand in Florida, where the race for the state’s 29 electoral college votes is predicted to be close.

The show will begin at 11pm and run through the night until 6am.
