Daughter of woman deported from US addresses moving message directly to Trump

An 11-year-old girl delivered an emotional message directly to Donald Trump during the Democratic National convention on Wednesday night, saying the president had torn her family's world apart.

The girl named Estella said in the video message that her mother, her best friend, was deported after building a better life in the United States for more than 20 years.

"My dad thought you would protect military families, so he voted for you in 2016, Mr President. He says he won't vote for you again after what you did to our family," Estella says.

"Instead of protecting us you tore our world apart. Now my mum is gone, and she's been taken from us for no reason at all. Every day that passes you deport more mums and dads and take them away from kids like me."

The video played against the backdrop of Mr Trump's divisive comments on immigration and images of ICE facilities.

"We will begin by moving them out, day 1," Mr Trump said of illegal immigrants in the video.

Estella said the president has separated thousands of children from their parents, some who were now orphans.

"Mr President, my mum is the wife of a proud American Marine and the mother of two American children," she says.

"We are American families, we need a president who will bring people together, not tear them apart."
