Democratic Debate: Sen. Elizabeth Warren says Donald Trump 'disgraces the office of president every single day'

Elizabeth Warren has launched an impassioned attack on Donald Trump, saying he disgraces the office of the president “every day”, and that all of her Democratic rivals would do a better job than him.

In her opening comments on the first night of the second Democratic debate, Ms Warren, along with fellow progressive Bernie Sanders, was quick to double down on her position.

“Donald Trump disgraces the office of president every single day, and anyone on this stage tonight or tomorrow night would be a far better president,” said Ms Warren.

“Our problems did not start with Donald Trump. Donald Trump is part of a corrupt, rigged system that has helped the wealthy and the well connected and kicked dirt in the faces of everyone else.”

Ms Warren was third in polls for the Democratic nomination going into party’s second debate, in Detroit, Michigan.

She and Mr Biden were quick to attacked by some of their more moderate rivals, among them Montana governor Steve Bullock, and businessman John Delaney.

“Watching that last debate, folks seemed more concerned about scoring points or outdoing each other with wish-list economics than making sure Americans know we hear their voices and will help their lives,” said Mr Bullock.

Mr Delaney used his openings comments to compare progressive on the stage to Democrats such as George McGovern, the party’s liberal presidential nomination in 1972, who lost to Richard Nixon.

Ms Warren responded by accusing Mr Delaney of using “Republican taking points”

“Look, let’s be clear about this. We are the Democrats. We are not about trying to take away health care from anyone,” she said.

“That’s what the Republicans are trying to do. And we should stop using Republican talking points in order to talk with each other about how to best provide that health care.”
