Hillary Clinton shuts down Trump rant about her with two-word tweet
The President brought up Secretary Clinton during a rambling response to a question about Joe Biden's running mate, Kamala Harris
Hillary Clinton shut down Donald Trump's latest rant about her with a two-word tweet that has since gone viral.
The President bashed Secretary Clinton - his rival during the 2016 election - during a Fox News interview on Tuesday. Mr Trump once again brought up Ms Clinton during a rambling response to a question about Joe Biden's running mate, Kamala Harris, which also veered into an attack on the media and Russian collusion.
“You look at Hillary Clinton where she paid for the fake dossier and now the dossier has proven to be totally fake,” the president told host Sean Hannity, referring to reports that the Clinton presidential campaign had paid for the infamous Steele dossier that alleged ties between Russia and the Trump campaign.
Following the interview, Sec. Clinton shot back on Twitter, posting: “Rent-free."
Her clipped version of the insult - “living rent-free in your head” - sums up when someone is fixated on or agitated by another person regardless of their efforts.
Sec. Clinton used the term last year when discussing the president’s repeated attacks on her during an interview.
“I’m living rent-free inside of Donald Trump’s brain, and it’s not a very nice place to be, I can tell you that,” she told TV host Rachel Maddow.
The former first lady's tweet on Wednesday was a response to CNBC reporter Christina Wilkie, who pointed out Mr Trump had failed to mention Senator Harris in his response and singled out Ms Clinton instead.
Ms Wilkie wrote: "Missing from Trump’s response to a softball question on @KamalaHarris’ past remarks: any mention of Kamala Harris. Not missing: Hillary Clinton."
Ms Clinton's tweet has had more than 22,000 retweets and 113,000 likes.
Among the thousands of responses, one Twitter user asked: “did Trump forget he’s running against Biden again?”
“Are you going to throw Kamala a housewarming party? Social distancing shouldn’t be a problem in Trump’s head,” another tweeted.
