'Are you ready': Jill Biden sends message to Kamala Harris's husband after Democrat VP pick announced

‘Ready to work! Let’s go,’ Douglas Emhoff tweets in response

Jill Biden sent a message of support to Douglas Emhoff, after his wife Kamala Harris was announced as Joe Biden‘s running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

Ms Harris was confirmed as Mr Biden’s running mate on Tuesday, following months of speculation about who would join the 77-year-old on the Democratic ticket at the 2020 presidential election.

On Tuesday, Ms Biden, who served as the US second lady during the Obama administration and has been married to the former vice president since 1977, tweeted: “Hey @DouglasEmhoff. Are you ready?” and Mr Emhoff responded: “Ready to work! Let’s go.”

Mr Emhoff married Ms Harris in 2014 and made headlines earlier in the year when he wrestled a microphone from a protester, while his wife was still seeking to become the Democratic nominee for president, according to USA Today.

After the incident, the 55-year-old who works as an entertainment lawyer in California, tweeted that he would “do anything for her.”

A similar incident occurred while Ms Biden was on the campaign trail with her husband, as she fended off protesters who attempted to get on stage during his Los Angeles rally on Super Tuesday.

Ms Biden, who worked as a teacher during the eight years she served as the second lady, told CBS on Monday that she plans to do the same if her husband is elected president in November.

“If we get to the White House, I’m going to continue to teach,” Ms Biden told CBS’ Rita Braver. “I want people to value teachers and know their contributions and to lift up the profession,” she added.

After Ms Harris was announced as Mr Biden’s pick for vice president, the spouses of other Democrats who had campaigned to be the presidential nominee alongside the California senator congratulated her on Twitter.

Jill O’Meara Sanders, the wife of Democratic runner up Bernie Sanders, replied to Mr Emhoff’s tweet and wrote: “You will be a tremendous asset to the campaign Doug! Congratulations to @KamalaHarris, to you & to all of us who want to see Trump & Pence soundly defeated.

“The energy, enthusiasm, incisive wit & positive outlook you’ll both bring to this fight will seal the deal #BidenHarris2020.”

Chasten Buttigeig, the husband of former Democratic challenger Pete Buttigeig, also tweeted his support for Ms Biden and Mr Emhoff.

“Joe & Jill & Kamala & Doug Get me T-shirt’s. Let’s go,” he wrote and later added: “I can’t wait to see what Jill and Doug do. Elated.”

Ms Biden is scheduled to deliver an address at the Democratic National Convention next Tuesday, while Ms Harris will giver her first speech as Mr Biden’s running mate on Wednesday.
