Fox News host under fire for defending white nationalist conspiracy theory

Lachlan Murdoch has given Tucker Carlson his backing as the Fox News host doubled down on his defence of a white nationalist conspiracy theory.

Rupert Murdoch’s son rejected calls for the right-wing news channel to fire Mr Carlson after the Anti-Defamation League accused him of invoking the “great replacement theory” on his show.

The ADL says that is a racist doctrine that claims that white people are being intentionally replaced by immigrants and minorities.

Lachlan Murdoch, the CEO of Fox Corp, responded to the ADL by saying that Carlson had not been supporting “white replacement theory” on his show last week.

In a letter to the ADL’s CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Mr Murdoch said the company had done a “full review” of Calrson’s comments and “respectfully disagree” that he was pushing the racist theory.

The day after receiving the backing of his boss, Carlson used his Fox News show on Monday night to again push the notion.

“It was true and therefore worth saying,” he said. 

“America badly needs a national conversation about it.”

“Demographic change is the key to the Democratic party’s political ambitions,” Carlson said.

“Let’s say that again for emphasis because it is the secret to the entire immigration debate. Demographic change is the key to the Democratic party’s political ambitions.

“In order to win and maintain power, Democrats plan to change the population of the country … Their goal is to make you irrelevant.”

The controversy flared up last Thursday when during an appearance on Fox News Primetime, Carlson claimed that Democrats are “trying to replace the current electorate of voters” with “more obedient voters from the Third World”.

“I have less political power because they are importing a brand new electorate,” Carlson said. “Why should I sit back and take that?”
