Nigel Farage says Donald Trump must focus on the issues

Nigel Farage, the acting leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, offered Donald Trump a bit advice just hours ahead of the third and final presidential debate.

“[Donald Trump] must talk about the issues tonight: America's place in the world, strong border controls and helping small business owners,” Mr Farage, a vocal supporter of the Trump campaign, tweeted on Wednesday.

His comments come shortly after an appearance on CNN where he suggested that the Republican nominee avoids addressing the women who have accused him of sexual assault.

“I think whether it’s Washington or Brussels or London, what we’ve seen over the last 25 years is an emergence of a political class that is out of touch with mainstream public opinion,” he told CNN. “Hillary [Clinton] is the epitome of that establishment.”

Mr Farage helped spearhead the effort behind the UK’s exit from the European Union. His political movement has been compared to Mr Trump’s campaign for it’s tough views on immigration and trade policy.

He also downplayed the impact of Ms Clinton’s double-digit lead in recent national polls.

“Maybe also people aren’t telling pollsters the truth,” he said in the interview. “Thinking, I don’t want to tell a pollster I’m voting for Trump, but in private, that’s how I feel and that’s what I’m going to do.”
