Obama tweets ‘vote’ in answer to Trump’s ‘Obamagate’ conspiracy theory

Ex-president provided one word for Americans amid Donald Trump’s latest theory

As Donald Trump continued to push his so-called “Obamagate” scandal, Barack Obama had one message for Americans: “vote”.

On Thursday, Mr Obama’s one word Twitter post came as Mr Trump demanded that the two-term-president should be made to testify before Congress.

Mr Trump has written numerous tweets about “Obamagate” in the past week, which he has dubbed “the biggest political crime and scandal in the history of the USA”.

He maintains that Mr Obama and his officials attempted to wreck his presidency with legal traps, whilst leaving the US unprepared for the Covid-19 pandemic.

His predecessor however shared similar “vote” messages on other social media platforms on Thursday, and has not commented on Mr Trump’s deep-state theory.

Whilst the coronavirus crisis continues across the US, Mr Trump and senior Republicans have turned to pushing the “Obamagate” plot in an apparent attempt to pass blame for their mistakes.

On Thursday, Mr Trump suggested that the Obama administration had failed to prepare for the next pandemic after it managed the H1N1 virus.

"Under the previous administration, most of the stockpile was depleted and never refilled," said Mr Trump. "We were, we were given very little when we came into this administration".

The president also backed Republicans on Wednesday who claimed Obama administration officials tried to un-mask Mr Trump’s 2016 campaign advisor, Michael Flynn, as the person who had called Russia’s then ambassador to Washington.

The presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, was included on the list.

"The unmasking is a massive thing," said Mr Trump on Mr Biden. "He knows nothing about anything. ... And then it gets released today that he's a big unmasker. How do you know nothing if you're one of the unmaskers?"

Mr Trump had berated Mr Obama on Sunday following the former president’s criticism of the Justice Department’s decision to drop the case against Mr Flynn.

The president has sent multiple tweets pushing the “Obamagate” term since then, and has retweeted one supporter’s claim that Obama was “the first Ex-President to ever speak against his successor.”

On Friday, Mr Trump praised his Twitter followers for their support.

“Thank you to all of my great Keyboard Warriors. You are better, and far more brilliant, than anyone on Madison Avenue (Ad Agencies)”, said Mr Trump. “There is nobody like you!”
