Donald Trump is “very keen” on launching a new reality TV series after his days serving in the White House are over, according to reports.

The president has “sporadically kept in touch” with Mark Burnett, the creator of The Apprentice, and misses his days in front of the camera as the star of the show, according to the Daily Beast.

The pair reportedly raised the idea of launching a new version of the show titled The Apprentice: White House.

“There have been several discussions between Burnett and Trump about The Apprentice: White House,” a source told the news outlet. “It is something Burnett thinks could be a money-spinner and Trump is very keen on doing.”

Mr Trump regularly reminisces about hosting The Apprentice since becoming president, describing it as a “good experience” during off-script moments at rallies and tweeting about it being a “VERY successful show”.

The president’s advisers reportedly say he appeared hesitant to run for political office prior to launching a bid for the White House in 2016 because it meant he would likely be forced to leave reality television behind.

Michael Caputo, a former aide to the president, told the Daily Beast Mr Trump “talked about whether if he ran for [New York] governor, or if he ran for president, if he had to quit the show because he really liked it”.

“That consideration came up multiple times” during Mr Trump’s conversations in 2013 and 2014 with Mr Caputo, the former aide said, adding: “It appeared to be a pretty profitable business deal for him and he didn’t want to give that up.”

Mr Trump tweeted an explanation as to why he was no longer participating in the reality show during his campaign in September 2015, writing: “To all my fans, sorry I couldn’t do The Apprentice any longer—but equal time (presidential run) prohibits me from doing so. Love!”

However, some aspects of Mr Trump’s reality TV history aren’t all about the ratings and fame. The president has been accused of sexual assault by Summer Zervos, a former contestant on the show, who has provided phone records reportedly corroborating her allegations.

Ms Zervos, who is suing Mr Trump for defamation after he effectively called her a liar over the sexual assault claims, has also provided a calendar entry in court records putting her with the president on the day of the alleged assault.
