A California man has published video of himself being attacked by a white woman who claims Mexican people are “rapists” and “animals,” and cites US President Donald Trump as her inspiration.

Twenty-seven-year-old Esteban Guzman posted footage of the altercation to Facebook, writing: “Thank you for voting for Trump because thanks to him everywhere I go I am a rapist, and animal, and drug dealer. You don’t know what it feels like to be hated so much.”

Mr Guzman said the post was later deleted for violating Facebook’s community standards.

The 35-second video clip appears to show a white woman accosting Mr Guzman and another person he later identified as his mother. The woman gives Mr Guzman the middle finger and tells him she hates people like them because “you’re Mexicans”.

“We’re honest people right here,” he says.

“You’re rapists,” she responds, “and animals. Drug dealers.”

The woman then says something about “the president of the United States”.

Mr Trump claimed in his 2015 speech announcing his candidacy for president that Mexico was “sending people that have lots of problems” over the border. “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists,” he added.

Mr Guzman told the New York Daily News he and his mother were doing landscaping work when the woman came over and started yelling at them to “go back to Mexico”.

The woman has not been identified.

In his Facebook post, Mr Guzman pleaded with viewers to “work together to stop racism”.

“We are honest, hardworking, and respectful people,” he wrote.

The Independent has contacted Mr Guzman for comment.
