Worldwide hunt for terrorism suspect

America has launched a worldwide hunt for a 27-year-old Saudi citizen, seen a week ago in Florida. They believe Adnan al-Shukirjumah might be a leading al-Qa'ida organiser in the mould of Mohammed Atta, ringleader of the 11 September suicide hijackers.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said he posed an "imminent threat to US citizens and interests", but did not specify the threat.

Bush administration officials said they believed Mr Shukirjumah had taken flight training at a school in Norman, Oklahoma, although the school said it had no record of a student named as Mr Shukirjumah, or any of the half-dozen aliases the FBI said he had used. The Shukirjumah family had lived in Miramar, north of Miami, since 1995, neighbours said. The FBI said Mr Shukirjumah last entered the United States just before 11 September 2001 and left again that year, possibly for Morocco. But he is believed to hold passports from Guyana, Trinidad, Canada and Saudi Arabia, and might have re- entered illegally.

A neighbour in Miramar says he saw him at a barbecue last weekend. His name appears to have come up in interrogation sessions with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of 11 September who was arrested in Pakistan this month.
