Quito - Ecuador has agreed to have two former presidents, Jimmy Carter of the United States and Oscar Arias of Costra Rica, try to arrange a ceasefire in its two-week border war with Peru, the government said.

There was no immediate response from Lima. Peru's President, Alberto Fujimori, said three of his country's war planes were shot down by Ecuador on Friday. AFP, Reuter
