The United Nations announced a breakthrough in truce talks between the Angolan government and the rebel group Unita that would lead to the resumption of peace talks, Reuter reports from New York.
Unita had 'accepted in writing' the principle of withdrawing from territories it occupied after losing elections last year, a UN spokesman said. The Angola government 'reacted positively', he said, and peace talks would resume soon in the Zambian capital, Lusaka.
