At least 20 missing after Nepal boat capsizes

Ap

At least 20 people are missing after an overcrowded boat they were travelling in capsized in a rain-swollen river in southern Nepal.

Police official Bikash Shrestha said the exact number of missing is unknown. He says the boat was carrying at least 35 people and only a dozen have been accounted for.

The boat capsized on the Kamala river, which is 250 miles south east of the capital Katmandu. By the time rescuers reached the site it was already dark.

Another police official, Hari Bahadur Pal, said the boat was old and overcrowded and the river was flooded by monsoon rains.

The search is continuing.
