Bo Xilai has appealed against his life sentence for abuse of power, corruption and embezzlement, a source with direct knowledge of the case said.
The source said the process could take up to two months.
Bo, 64, a one-time rising star of the Communist Party, was sentenced to life in prison on Sunday. His fall follows one of the biggest scandals in China’s recent history, in which his wife was convicted of the murder of a British businessman, Neil Heywood.
Bo’s appeal is unlikely to succeed given that courts are controlled by the ruling Communist Party.
